A soldier from St. Petersburg has been killed in action in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense confirms.

Army Spc. David W. Thomas, 40, of St. Petersburg, and Staff Sgt. Eric B. Shaw, 31, of Exeter, Maine died Sunday from injuries they received when enemy forces attacked their unit with small arms fire in Konar, the military said.

The soldiers were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combate Team, 101st Airbourne Division (Air Assault) and were based out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. From all of us here at WQYK our prayers go out to the soldiers Families.
