Just One of Those Days
Ever had a Murphy’s Law day, where everything that could go wrong did? Rather then letting it get you down, act like it happened to someone else. According to Robin Hornstein, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist in Philadelphia, dwelling on
bad days prolongs negative feelings. “That in turn increases anxiety and stress,” she says. But if you engage in a little selective denial, you’ll do yourself a big favor. “Negativity already took up 24 hours of your life,” says Dr. Hornstein. “why live through it even longer?” Her trick: Fictionalize a bad day by imagining it as a sitcom. Cast it with funny characters; add a few pratfalls. Soon you’ll be laughing about what happened, rather than regretting it.
