In honor of Country Music Month, throughout October, we’re going to be running Top 5 lists of different types of country songs. Today, we present to you, the Top 5 Country Songs About Other Country Stars.

You will probably want to add to this list; there are many, many country songs that mention other country stars. Some of the songs are very obscure.

Some don’t really mention the artist, except in details about his or her life – for example “Black Velvet” is about Elvis, but you have to get the many hints. “Walking In Memphis” is similar. So here is our list to get you started.

5. Luckenbach Texas by [lastfm]Willie Nelson[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Waylon Jennings[/lastfm]
This one’s a double bonus – they’re singing about themselves, as well as [lastfm]Mickey Newbury[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Hank Williams[/lastfm].

4. Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes by [lastfm]George Jones[/lastfm]
The Crown Prince of Country sings about almost every important star up until 1985.

3. [lastfm]Johnny Cash[/lastfm] by [lastfm]Jason Aldean[/lastfm]
Blast it out – when we hear Jason sing this, he makes it clear who gets respect!

2. I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool by [lastfm]Barbara Mandrell[/lastfm]
This song is so cool that almost anybody who knows nothing about country music can sing it.

1. [lastfm]Tim McGraw[/lastfm] by [lastfm]Taylor Swift[/lastfm]
This memorable performance by Taylor Swift at the ACMs actually shows her singing to Tim McGraw himself. Faith doesn’t look too thrilled, but they were good sports about it. Hey it could have been worse – she could have dragged Tim up on stage under the waterfall during “Should Have Said No”.

So there you have our list…now let us know all the better songs we missed…deal?
