Without Dolly Parton country just wouldn’t be the same. As Last.fm Trends reach 1978 in their review of every CMA Entertainer of the Year winner, it’s time to check out what listeners really think of the Queen of Country Music.
In the two years leading up to Parton’s win at the CMA’s she released three records that topped the country charts and dented the pop charts too. Of those it was Here You Come Again that had the biggest impact.
More than thirty years later it still captures the hearts of Parton’s fans. A reach of 1,822 might not sound a lot, but with 58 studio albums to her name so far, not to mention more than twenty compilations, it’s up against a lot of competition.
Of the singles she dropped in 1978 it’s the title track from Heartbreaker that has seen the most play from Last.fm listeners.
But that’s only half the story; Parton’s success today – the source of 3,824,375 plays from 380,210 listeners – lies in the legendary singles she dropped throughout her career.
The most popular of these come from the early 70′s; “I Will Always Love You” has claimed 188,315 scrobbles; “9 To 5″ takes 392,837; “Jolene” has so far seen 790,986 scrobbles, a number that rises by thousands week after week.
Even after a thirty year gap, Dolly Parton remains an entertainer for the ages.
