In honor of Country Music Month, we asked a panel of country music experts from across the country, “what is the best country song you’ve ever heard?” This installment is from Arizona Annie. Annie is an on-air personality KMLE in Phoenix. Here now, is the best country song Arizona Annie has ever heard.
It’s really hard to pick just one favorite song from a format that I love so much, but if I had to, I would say “Ring of Fire” by [lastfm]Johnny Cash[/lastfm].
Not only is it sung by one of the most distinctive voices ever, the song itself has a great beat and great lyrics. It translates so well and is performed by artists of all genres. But surprisingly, the first time I remember hearing and having an impact on me was 1986 when it was covered by [lastfm]Dwight Yoakam[/lastfm]!
My favorite will always be the swing Dwight Yoakam version– when I hear it, my mind instantly conjures up sexy swing dancers, and my toes start tapping – it’s contagious! But Johnny’s voice is warm and haunting. The song has absolute coolness and it respected and loved by fans of all types of music! It’s universal.
You can keep up with Arizona Annie on KMLE.
