Last.fm Trends: Kenny Chesney Conquers The CMAs
In a room full of CMA Entertainers of the Year, Kenny Chesney would still come out on top. He’s the only four-time winner (2004, 2006-8), and has dragged the country establishment back into the mainstream spotlight throughout the last decade.
Last.fm Trends takes a look at how his music stacks up today, as the 2010 awards draw ever closer.
Chesney’s a popular pick among listeners using Last.fm. His tracks have collected some 4,220,238 plays from 307,478 listeners, a solid showing that his contemporaries will find hard to beat.
Of his albums, the top five range from throughout the decade.
When The Sun Goes Down is far and away the fans’ pick, and Chesney has so far collected 704,195 plays for album tracks on this release alone. It was released in the same year as his first CMA win – 2004 – and set the tone for his following albums.
In fact, the second most popular record – The Road And The Radio – was delivered more than a year and a half later, and it keyed up wins in 2006, 2007 and 2008 as Chesney embarked on huge tours to entertain fans throughout North America.
The most popular track of Chesney’s though comes from When The Sun Goes Down. “I Go Back” has seen 65,842 of you spin it time and again, and it’s been a solid performer year after year.
