Last.fm Trends: Marty Stuart And Connie Smith Couple Up For The Grammys
Husband and wife duo Marty Stuart and Connie Smith will be hoping they’re a winning combination at this year’s Grammy awards: their duet “I Run To You” is nominated for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals.
A classic artist, Smith’s breakthrough came in 1964. She hasn’t released a record since 1998, and this is her first nomination in 34 years. Up for Grammys throughout the 60s and into the 70s, this would still be her first win if they were to top the category.
Their collaboration’s low listenership is dwarfed by Smith’s greatest hit, “Once A Day”, with 13,774 scrobbles from 5,637 listeners. Alongside Dierks Bentley’s two nods in the same category, it looks like something of an outsider bet.
Stuart, meanwhile, has stayed prolific since 1978. He’s also up for Best Country Instrumental Performance with “Hummingbyrd”, another track from Ghost Train: The Studio B Sessions. He’s previously won the award in 1993 and 2001, as well as Best Country Collaboration With Vocals in 1992 and 1998. Interestingly, his most popular track on Last.fm is “Hey Porter” with 11,252 scrobbles from 5,929 listeners, a 1982 collaboration with Johnny Cash. Time will tell if he wins a solo award or benefits from some more collaborative magic.
