So next year the Grammys are going to be quite different. The categories will be much different and harder to win that award that every artist will want!
The announcement was made Wednesday, April 6th that next year the 54th annual Annual Grammy Awards will only have 78 categories…that is 31 fewer categories than the last awards that were held this past February. Audiences will notice changes in the separate gender categories for pop, R&B, rock and country. Those categories will no longer be separated by genders. There also will not be separate gender categories for male or female vocals, this category will be shared by both being called, Solo Performance for each genre for a single. Along with those eliminations, various instrumental categories have also been done away with. With these changes the Recording Academy has also rewritten the rules for entry and voting purposes. Each category must have at least 40 artists to continue with the category. If there are less than 25, the category will not be presented at all. These changes will be noticeable next year once the show airs, audiences will see less categories for each of the genres, making it harder for artist to be nominated and win the awards.
