Street Date: Ana Egge Releases “Bad Blood,” Produced By Steve Earle
[lastfm]Ana Egge[/lastfm] releases her 7th studio album, Bad Blood, her first produced by [lastfm]Steve Earle[/lastfm] and with Ammal Records. Both Steve and his wife (as well as frequent musical partner) [lastfm]Allison Moorer[/lastfm] guest on this record, but their presence is never too apparent. Bad Blood finds Egge at her loneliest, each song barely breaking a whisper, sounding consistently broken heartened.
A veteran in the roots/country/folk music scene, Ana has long crafted songs with a heavy heart, eschewing bombast for subtlety within delicate acoustic arrangements. The charm of Bad Blood lies in the unassuming songwriting talent of Ms. Egge. Her lyrics never reveal much, though hint at darker origins, and her arrangements tread lightly through finger-picked melodies. Bad Blood calms, rather than rouses, and this aesthetic works wonders for Ana’s soft voice. All in all, an album worth listening to on a porch, overlooking a sunset somewhere with a gentle wind.
