Country Music Is……It is country music month and we have asked a panel of experts: What does country music mean to you? Cowboy Dave from 100.3 KILT has been around country music for all of his 32 years… and in country radio for 14 of those years.
Country music for me is a huge arena full of memories. I grew up in Magnolia, Texas… a small town just north of Houston where country music is king. I remember being as young as 5 years old and getting my first cassette tape for Christmas, it was Pancho & Lefty by Merle & Willie!
I was listening to rock and pop at the time but at 5 we really don’t know what we like… well; I knew right away that I was a fan of country music. I picked up a guitar for the first time that same year… and I have never put it down. Music in general is a very important part of my life… I once saw a new group called [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Brooks & Dunn [/lastfm]open for [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]ZZ Top[/lastfm]; I was amazed that fans of ZZ Top took to Ronnie and Kix so well. It was then I realized that music is universal; it carries a lot of weight to the emotions for every one of us. Whether you’re happy, sad, and nostalgic or in love… Music cures all!
I love it when I hear a song and it takes me back to great memories… the power of a song is amazing!!! I’ve lost some of those who helped make those memories but I’ll never forget the imprint they made on my soul because of those songs. Country music has that kind of power, all the way back to[lastfm link_type="artist_info"] Conway Twitty[/lastfm] and “Slow Hand” to The [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Eli Young Band [/lastfm]“Crazy Girl”… I can associate one person or memory to almost every song that is close to me.
