During the four-day Country Thunder festival in Arizona last week, Phoenix radio host Big Shoe Stu Evans was invited onto Alan Jackson‘s tour bus just before he went on stage to perform.

Standing on the bus, Stu and Alan talk about fishing, one of Jackson’s favorite artists, and, of course, his upcoming brand-new album.

So speaking of fishing, what is Alan’s favorite catch?

“You know, they’re all different,” says a smiling Jackson, “but in the ocean, the Blue Marlin is the top of the chain. I’ve caught several.”

Switching gears, Stu gets him to talk about one of his favorite musicians from years back.

“When Denise and I got married,” Jackson remembers, “it was on our honeymoon–it was just up in the north Georgia mountains for three days–we had a cassette of Ronnie Milsap, and we listened to that thing the whole time.”

So, he says, “when I start thinking of buying old music, and those days, that what always comes back to me. I’m a big fan of him, great singer.”

And as for his new album, of course he’s excited about it. “It’s like a new baby. When you finish that album, it always feels like your favorite for a while.” But he’s not just being sentimental, “it has a lot of cool stuff on it,” he says.

Jackson will release his much anticipated new album, Thirty Miles West, on June 5. It is his debut album on ACR/EMI Records Nashville and is produced by his long-time producer and friend, Keith Stegall.
