What is Zac Brown’s favorite country song? And which superstar artist first got him into country music and “opened up [his] world”?
Cowboy Dave from CBS Houston station KILT got the opportunity to chat with wine-drinking, food-loving bearded man Zac Brown and asked him some hard-hitting questions. Most importantly, he asked the lead singer of the Zac Brown Band to name his favorite country song.
“When I think about a song that defines country music,” says Brown, “it’s got to be ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today.’”
That choice might be a “cliche,” he admits of the George Jones classic, but “when that string section kicks in, the production behind it, the voice, the whole thing…that’s a powerful, powerful song.”
Zac then goes on to talk about the song that really got him into country music.
“I remember the first time I heard ‘The Thunder Rolls’ [by] Garth Brooks. I mean, Garth really got me into country. It opened up the world where I really started listening to it and seeking it out. He’s somebody that I definitely want to try to do something with.”
“As an entertainer, Garth really set the bar. And we’re following in those footsteps. We want to move people like that.”
