Located in Clear Lake, Iowa, the Surf Ballroom has seen many legendary artists perform on its stage since first opening in 1933. But today it’s probably most famous as the venue where Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper performed their final concert on Feb. 2, 1959.
Martina McBride stopped by recently during her spring tour, and before her performance she paid tribute to Holly, Valens, and the Bopper with a great rendition of Holly’s classic song “That’ll Be the Day.” She sang a stripped-down acoustic version with her band, and lucky for us, it was recorded for her intimate, behind-the-scenes Martina Moments video series.
Watch the video below of Martina McBride performing “That’ll Be the Day” at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa.
