Scientists have unearthed two fossilized turtles having sex, which could be the first known case of fossilized animals with backbones found having sex. Scientists found the fossilized turtles in the Messel Pit in Germany, which was once a volcanic crater lake, and the turtles probably got stuck and kept sinking lower into the deeper layers of the lake.
The pit, which was originally a quarry mined for oil, has unearthed animals like early horses, reptiles, primates, giant ants and birds. The lake deep layers contain many deadly gases and other toxins. To see a picture of the two turtles that were unearthed in the pit Click Here.
