Jayla Jones, age 16, was seated at a theater across the hall from where authorities say 24-year-old James Homes opened fire on over 50 innocent movie-goers at the Century 16 Theater in Aurora, Colorado early Friday morning. Homes is now in police custody as the death toll currently sits at 12. Jones told Cledus & Dave this morning that among all of the panic, she found out her friend was shot in the leg – he is at an area hospital and is expected to be okay:
“People were confused if it was real or not,” says Jayla, who told Cledus and Dave that there was a heavy action scene with shooting in the movie at the same time the gunman opened fire. The fire alarm then sounded and Jayla was escorted out of the theater passing SWAT team members and policemen with firearms drawn. “People were running around with blood on their shirts and I saw two bodies laying on the sidewalk.”
Another witness, Donovan Tate, tells CBS4 in Denver “There was this one guy on all fours crawling. There was this girl spitting up blood. There were bullet holes in some people’s backs, in some people’s arms. There was one guy who was just stripped down to his boxers. It looked like he had been shot in the back or something.”
Of those injured in the shooting was a 3-month-old baby who authorities say has been treated and released from a nearby hospital. The Associated Press reported that Holmes was a medical student at the University of Colorado and withdrew in June.
