For those of us who think making music is easy take a look and see what Love and Theft had to say about hoeing that road.
Stephen: “It’s been a long road…”  Eric: “Incredible. Almost nine months exactly.”  Stephen: “Yeah, we kept on workin’ hard and enjoyin’ it, you know, we feel very blessed. We were happy with a Top 10, and then when it went five, we were like, ‘Wow, that’s awesome,’ and then when we heard we had a chance for number one, we were like, ‘Yeah, right…’”  Eric: “It’s apparently some kind of record, I think at least on Billboard, for duo or a group, the longest climb to number one, so, that’s kind of exciting.”  Stephen: “Whew! Boy, our arms are really tired!”
Eric: (laughs) “Yeah, I mean, really, Stephen’s just more tired ’cause he’s had to pull me up a lot, you know, so…”  Stephen: “Yeah.”
Eric: “I’m heavy. Really heavy.”  Stephen: “He’s a lot heavier than me.”  Eric: (laughs) and says..“Another thing like we’ve always dreamed of, somethin’ I’ve always wanted, was a Gold record. I see ‘em in all the producers’ houses that we’ve worked with and in different studios. It’s like, ‘Man, it’d be so cool to have one of those one day.’ So to get that and, you know, a few days later find out that we got the number-one song in the country, it was a pretty crazy week and especially a crazy three days. It was really awesome, and I don’t think I’ve ever been quite this happy, besides the day I got married.”
