Many music fans use Twitter to get music news and learn about upcoming CD releases from their favorite artists. Usually, though, the artists themselves have more direct channels to learn about things like, for instance, release dates for their upcoming albums.

You’d think, right?

Well, apparently that’s not always the case. Just ask Martina McBride, who revealed last night that she only learned about an upcoming best-of collection of her RCA recordings via Twitter.

She tweeted out a second message, though, where she said she was “not mad about it.”

Martina would probably be truly mad with RCA if she was currently signed with them — but she’s now on Republic Nashville, which is part of the Big Machine Label Group.

According to CMT the RCA release will be a two-CD, 40-song set called The Essential Martina McBride. It’ll feature her biggest hits from her RCA years, as well as some duets she’s done with the likes of Alan Jackson, Raul Malo, and Clint Black.

One website has published a track listing and claims the release date is Oct. 22. (Amazon also notes an Oct. 22 release date for the album, but includes no track list.) As of press time, an official release date and track listing has not yet been confirmed by RCA Nashville.

In the meantime, Martina McBride is traveling to Switzerland this weekend, to perform at the Menuhin Festival Gstaad.

She then returns to the US to resume her theater tour and prepare for her Joy of Christmas shows. The latter begin on Nov. 23 in Atlanta.
