Disney has splashed the cash and has acquired Lucasfilm from George Lucas for $4.05 billion, so the Star Wars franchise now belongs to Disney. This is not the first time that Disney spent billions on another film company as they bought Marvel for $4 billion and Pixar for $7.4 billion. George Lucas already had announced he would step down from day-to-day operations of Lucasfilm. The deal is $4.05 billion in stock and cash.
Disney also announced that they will revive the Star Wars franchise with Star Wars Episode 7 due to come out in 2015. George Lucas will serve as a creative consultant on the project.
