After working with Martina McBride on her version of his song “Marry Me,” Pat Monahan and the pop band he fronts, Train, are making another move in the direction of country music.
Train has just released a new video for the song “Bruises,” the latest single off the band’s album California 37. It was filmed in part at Colorado’s famed Red Rocks amphitheater, which allows for some stunning backdrops.
In its arrangement, tone, and melody “Bruises” is very much a country-flavored tune. Which isn’t a terribly surprising revelation, though, considering that the song (and the video) features a very country-flavored singer: Pistol Annies bandmember Ashley Monroe.
But shooting a music video with Train isn’t the only project on Ashley’s plate. She just released a lyric video for her brand-new song “Like A Rose,” which she says is from an upcoming album.

It’s a gently rolling song with more than a hint of melancholy, and Ashley’s clear, rich voice easily brings to mind Emmylou Harris. Ashley cowrote the song with Jon Randall (who, by the way, used to play in Emmylou’s band) and legendary Texas singer-songwriter Guy Clark.
“Like A Rose” is strong proof that Ashley is an artist to keep your eyes (and ears) on.
