The Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg takes place on March 22-24, 2013 along the waterfront street course in downtown St. Petersburg.   • Exciting news: U.S. Army Specialist and Wish For Our Heroes Inc. ambassador Charlie Lemon has been named Grand Marshal for the 2013 Honda Grand Prix. Susie Wheldon will wave the green flag.
  • Season 11 American Idol contestant Shannon Magrane and local Paralympic sailor Jen French will also be part of the event. Magrane, a Tampa native, will sing the national anthem during pre-race ceremonies.

Festival of States Parade/Fireworks Honda Grand Prix

The Festival of States Parade has been a St. Petersburg tradition since 1896. A family-friendly event, the parade winds through St. Petersburg’s waterfront area and features floats, marching bands, honor guards and lots of free stuff. In addition to truckloads of beads, giveaways will be provided by sponsors such as Busch Gardens, Radio Disney, the Salvador Dali Museum, and Celebration Station. After the parade is over, stick around for a fireworks show that is as beautiful as it is loud.

The Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg 5K Run, to benefit the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, takes place right on the Honda Grand Prix racetrack. In addition to getting some exercise and raising funds for a great cause, participants are given all kinds of incentives. The first 18 finishers will receive a gift certificate to Road ID, the first 100 children to cross the finish line will receive Grand Prix model cars, and the top individual pledge participant will receive two tickets to the Day at the Races with Sam Schmidt Motorsports. This package includes access to the track, pit access and a meet-and-greet with Sam Schmidt drivers including a photo opportunity.

USF2000 Race #1 & #2

USF2000, powered by Mazda, is an entry-level race series for career-minded, open-wheel drivers. For more than 20 years, USF2000 has provided cost-effective training for young drivers and participates in racing events all over the state, including the Honda Grand Prix. Keep your eyes open – you might just spot the next racing legend.

Acura Sports Car Challenge of St. Petersburg,

World Challenge Race  #1 & #2

This is the fourth straight year the Pirelli World Challenge will begin its race season in Florida with a big doubleheader weekend as part of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg IZOD IndyCar event. Round One is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, while Round Two is on Sunday, March 24. GT and GTS teams will compete this weekend.

Pirelli World Challenge GT
The high-horsepower Pirelli World Challenge GT Class (cars are identified by the black windshield banner) has always provided the ground shaking rumble and thunder in the series.  The class features Cadillac CTS-Vs, Volvo S60Rs, Chevrolet Corvettes, Nissan GT-Rs, Audi R8s, Porsche GT-3s, and Mercedes-Benz SLS.

Pirelli World Challenge GTS
The GTS class (cars are identified by the grey windshield banner) pits Japanese, Korean and German engineering against good old American brawn.  The class features teams running the Acura TSX, Kia Optima, Posche Cayman, Chevrolet Camaro, Scion FR-S, and the Nissan 370Z.

If you enjoyed the USF2000 race, then you’ll love the IZOD IndyCar Series race. This race is made up of more experienced drivers, so spectators can expect more action, faster laps, and more suspense.  Former Dancing with the Stars winner Helio Castroneves will be back to defend his title 2012 title Honda Grand Prix title.
