1.  Baseball great Babe Ruth hit the longest home run of his career in Tampa.

A plaque marks the location where the ball landed. It states: “At Tampa’s Plant Field on April 4, 1919, “Babe” Ruth, playing for the Boston Red Sox against the N.Y. Giants, smacked a 587 foot home run that set a record pre-season game. 4,3000 screaming fans saw the feat. Famed Evangelist Bill Sunday, an ex-major leaguer himself, who was conducting a tent revival on the Florida Fair Grounds nearby, had pitched the first ball of the game and The Bambino’s pace-setting ball was presented to him.”

2. Vending machines kill more people each year than sharks do.

A story published in the Book Of Odds, “calculates the odds that a person will die from a vending machine accident in a year are 1 in 112,000,000, while the odds that a person will die from a shark attack in a year are 1 in 251,800,000. This means that a person is more than twice as likely to be killed tipping a soda machine than to end up as food for a large toothy fish. ” What’s the math behind those odds? Confused the heck out of me. See if you can understand it. Click HERE.

3. Seth McFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, was supposed to be on one of the planes that flew into the World Trade Center on 9/11.

According to Wikipedia, on 9/11, MacFarlane was scheduled to return to LA on AA Flight 11 from Boston. Suffering from a hangover and with an incorrect departure time from his travel agent, he arrived at the gate too late for boarding.  15 minutes after departure that flight was hijacked, and at 8:46 a.m. was flown into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

4. The 7 main characters in cartoon TV show Spongebob Squarepants were modeled after each one of the seven deadly sins.

This interesting information was stated in the commentary included with the episode “Plankton!” on the DVD box-set of the show’s first season. The disc does not explain which characters match up with each sin. Source.

The 7 sins are: wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony.
The 7 main characters are: Mr. Krabs, Plankton, Patrick, Sandy, Squidward, Gary,  and Spongebob.

5. Barbie (the doll) has a middle and last name.

Barbie’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts. In a series of novels published by Random House in the 1960s, her parents’ names are given as George and Margaret Roberts from the fictional town of Willows, Wisconsin. Source Wikipedia.
