Eric Church Talks Live Shows, Live Album At Country Thunder
During his stop in Florence, Arizona this weekend for the four-day Country Thunder festival, ACM Album of the Year winner Eric Church took time to speak on his tour bus with Phoenix station KMLE about his show and his brand-new live album, Caught In The Act.
“I’m a fan of old rock and roll, and there used to be a lot of live albums out there,” he tells KMLE. “We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for our live show. There’s been many times where it’s carried us. Our live show we could always count on. So we thought it was the right moment to capture that, before we got too far away from it.”
What about the energy? “It was just rabid,” Eric says. The crowd was “wild, and I like that rowdy feeling.”
KMLE asked him about that “rabid” energy and his on-stage persona in general–since in person, he comes across polite, pleasant, and very low-key.
“It’s like a spring,” Eric says of his stage energy. “I come uncoiled. It’s kinda my release.” He admits he’s pretty laid back–the only times he’s not is when he’s on stage, “or when I drink too much whiskey.”
And if he’s wiped out by show’s end, that’s a good sign. “I think it should be like running a marathon when you go out there. You shouldn’t come off stage and feel like you could do it again.”
