Game 2 of the World Series started a little rocky Thursday night. Before first pitch, the legendary James Taylor was set to sing the National Anthem. With his guitar in hand, he strummed a few notes and started the first line….to America the Beautiful. Without missing a beat, the mellow crooner went right into the National Anthem.

After seven innings between the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox, the singer came back out and sang America the Beautiful in its entirety as part of a tribute to some Boston Marathon survivors.

Check out his smooth transition that’s being both scolded and defended by the Twitterverse….
