Surfer “Hangs 100!”
Pro surfer Carlos Burle had a pretty big day while participating in the 2014 Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards just off the coast of Portugal.
The day started off rough for Burle as one of his fellow surfers, Brazilian Maya Gabeira, broke her ankle and was pulled under the water where she stayed for almost five minutes. Burle saw her floating face down and pulled her to the shore.
After all the action was done, Burle had his shot at the waves where he managed to surf a potentially record-breaking wave thought to be about 100 feet. If the record is confirmed, Burle would have surpassed Garrett McNamara’s 2011 record for biggest wave ever surfed…. by 22 feet.
