The Best Homemade Beef Jerky In Tampa Bay
Dave & Veronica were on a mission this week: to find the best local, homemade beef jerky! After attending the Strawberry Festival, Dave’s craving for jerky hit an all-time high.
No offense to the “big guys,” the national, mass-produced brands (RIP Macho Man). But, we LOVE local! After taking suggestions from our listeners as to where we could find the best stuff, Dave & Veronica sought out samples from different locations. Among those, Redneck Steak in Pinellas Park, John’s Butcher Shop in Lutz, and Rick’s Custom Meats in Lithia.
In the first ever “Tampa Bay Jerky Challenge,” we brought in a meat connoisseur for a blind taste test. Chef George, head chef at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, weighed in and crowned the winner!
While George found all of them to be good, he chose John’s Butcher Shop in Lutz for its meaty flavor and simplicity! His second favorite was the Traditional from Rick’s Custom Meats in Lithia. George loves spicy flavors and enjoyed the peppery taste. In third, Redneck Steak jerky… it’s nice and thin, yet still moist.
