Antarctica Iceburg Breaks Off
Antarctica’s Pine Island had an iceberg break off and it’s now threatening shipping during this winter season.
The iceberg is called B31 and is one of the biggest ever recorded. It’s 255 square miles big and is almost a third of a mile thick.
To help understand the enormity of the iceberg, it is nearly twice the size of Atlanta.
The ‘berg is currently on path to head toward the general flow of the Southern Ocean.
Tracking it after that will be difficult due to the darkness of the Antarctic winter.
Experts say an iceberg of that size could last for over a year.
