Tampa Student Is Runner Up in the Geography Bee
The National Geographic Bee pits hundreds of middle school children against each other in a battle of geography wits.
11-year-old Ameya Mujumdar, from Tampa, took second place by giving the Earth’s precise diameter at the Equator -7,926 miles.
Mujumdar won a $25,000 scholarship for his overall geography knowledge.
13-year old Akhil Rekulapelli from Virginia took top honors. His winnings include $50,000 scholarship, a trip to the Galapagos Islands with his family and a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society.
