Global Citizen Festival Headliners: Carrie Underwood and More to Play Central Park
The third annual Global Citizen Festival will take place in New York City on Saturday, Sept. 27 and will feature a star-studded lineup featuring artists across several genres including hip-hop, rock, country and EDM. Jay Z, No Doubt, fun., Carrie Underwood, the Roots and Tiësto are all on the bill. The concert’s stated aim is to eliminate extreme poverty by 2030.
As in its first two years, the Global Citizen Festival is a free ticketed event and takes place at New York’s Central Park, and coincides with the meeting of the UN General Assembly. Fans can get tickets to the concert by earning “points” via actions that combat poverty, including signing a petition requesting to secure funding so 300 million children can be immunized against deadly diseases, or tweeting a “thank you” to Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg to “thank her for Norway’s leadership in reducing child deaths.”
Last year’s Global Citizen Festival featured performances by Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys and John Mayer; 2012 was the event’s first year, and featured Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters and the Black Keys.
48,000 free tickets will be given out for this year’s Global Citizen Festival; additionally, a limited number of VIP tickets will also be available for purchase.
